Chemical properties
White to pale yellow crystalline powder, odorless, bitter. Melting point 227-229°C. Soluble in water, methanol, ethanol and glycerol, slightly soluble in chloroform, ether; insoluble in acetone. It is stable under acidic conditions and is easily decomposed and deactivated under alkaline conditions.
